In the poem it expresses that, “Nothing gold can stay.” This symbolizes that good things and precious things must go and come to an end. It also states, “leaf subsides to leaf, So Eden sank to grief.” This is symbolizing how the beautiful leaves, when they begin to recede, is very saddening and depressing that even the Garden of Eden, a garden filled with all the plants and animals, would to grieve for.
