There is only one word for the impact the Anthropocene has on planet Earth:abrogative. Humans are doing away with the natural state of Earth with intensive agriculture, hunting and industrialization. Thirty-eight percent of dry land is being used for agriculture. This is bad for the soil, water and air because it does not get opportunities to restore itself as it is constantly ‘working’ to produce the needed food. The effects …show more content…
It has a strong and weaker version which are both accepted and rejected based on which biologist is asked(Wilson;2011,12). The strong version states that the Earth is capable of operating without external control or interventions, whereas the weaker version states that the Earth is an automatic ecosystem where everything is integrated into each other (Carsten;2024c,n/p). The Gaia hypothesis is a useful concept for having to think about the planet in the sense that should the weaker version be taken into account every species has a certain purpose it needs to fulfil ultimately meaning that all species, flora and fauna, are integrated somehow. If we think about how the earth is a ‘puzzle’ and that everything in it has some obvious or unobtrusive part to play in it, we should come to the the obvious conclusion that we as humans need a living Earth to survive as a species, hence I believe we should then be more cautious and intentional of what it is we are doing that is ultimately going to have an impact on the planet. 202
