Category seven – seek first to understand. My score for the seventh category was 13. The high result supports my default position of assuming processes and protocols are the way they are for a reason, especially when they appear suspect. My score for the eighth category was 11. The score supports my experience of practicing open-mindedness, but also shows room for development. I am aware that I seek out different perspectives when looking for solutions to a problem. I am also aware that I do not truly listen to alternative solutions when they are shared. I generally listen for agreeance, not for alternatives. One example of this was a visual presentation put together by a group I was part of. Many members of the group wanted to place a specific image near the end of the presentation; I considered it more logical near the beginning. After much debate, we discovered the concept the image was there to reinforce was made clearer when the image appeared both near the beginning and end of the
