The first thing they did was to confirm that there is no evidence that indicates the hacker is currently in their network. They also invalidated unencrypted security questions and answers so they cannot be used to access an account. They assured to enhance their systems that detect and prevent unauthorized access to user accounts. They notified their customers to promptly change their passwords and adopt alternate means of account verification. They recommended that all users who haven’t changed their passwords since 2014 to do so. They also encourage their users to follow a number of security recommendations. Such as: changing password and security questions and answers for any other accounts that might have similar information in Yahoo account. They also wanted their customers to review their accounts for suspicious activity and be cautious of any unsolicited communications that ask for personal information. And to avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from suspicious emails. Yahoo increased the level detection initiatives and active response to unauthorized access of accounts, and insured that they will continue to strive to stay ahead of these ever-evolving online threats and to keep users and platforms
