My values and beliefs are least aligned with the “Nurses’ Role in Capital Punishment.” I believe that regardless of what crime a person commits, another human being should not have the say so on whether they live or die. Also, there are a lot of people who are sent to prison and are innocent. If I were to assist in killing someone via lethal injection and that person was innocent, I would not be able to have a career as a nurse. My conscience will never be clear or will I be able to accept what has happened. The American Nurses Association's (ANA, 2010) definition of nursing is "the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury (p. 10). Assisting in capital punishment goes against the definition
