Back in the 70’s, when fast food was barely introduced, it was normal for many people to be athletically fit, eat homemade food, be more active, and the word “obesity” was unheard of in that period of time. Unlike today, where many people order takeouts from fast food restaurants on the daily, people from the 70’s would actually cook their own homemade meals that contain rich vitamins, nutrients, and minerals that meets the health requirements needed in the body. Moreover, people from the 70’s were more active and would often go outdoors to go socialize with other people or workout in any form because it was just a simple routine everyone had back then. Instead, the people today are frequently ordering food on a daily basis from a variety of different fast food chain restaurants that sell low nutritional, fattening junk food that will eventually corrupt the consumer both mentally and physically. In addition, comparing the portion sizes from the 70’s to now, there is an extremely large difference between the two. The portion sizes back then was much more minimal compared to the modern day portion sizes now and as a result, it limited the obesity rate at a low estimate in the 70’s. Rather than eating healthy, many people resort to eating fast food due to the convenience of it being considered cheap and quick to eat. Fast food joints may seem convenient for everyone, however the latest generation should not be affected of lacking the necessary vitamins and nutrients needed to function the body. Obesity is rising at a rapid rate as the new generations are becoming more exposed to eating junk food. Although it is partially the consumer’s fault for the cause of obesity due to personal responsibility and the lack of understanding the full meaning of nutritional facts, the restaurants are just as much to blame for as well because of the way nutritional facts are provided makes it difficult to grasp the full meaning. Whenever a restaurant wants to announce a new meal, it is often displayed everywhere from tv commercials to billboard signs to radio commercials to social media because the restaurant is trying to lure in customers to purchase the new so-called “healthy, low carb, low fat meal”. Clearly, that is a lie. It is important that the consumers are educated as to what the nutritional facts are in order to make better healthy eating decisions. If everyone was educated in terms of what is good and what is bad in the nutritional facts, then perhaps the obesity rate would be far lower and the latest
