Odysseus Hero Characteristics

Read this if you want to know what a true hero is and I can show you how a person is exactly that. For example, Odysseus, the hero of “The Odyssey,” was a man that impressed the Gods because he was a devoted person. One day his hubris got in the way and angered Poseidon and made Odysseus spend 20 long years searching for his family, fighting enemies and meeting God. Odysseus is an epic hero that has aspects of bravery, caring, and smartness.

Furthermore, the first aspect of being a hero, Odysseus, is a very brave person. When all of his men were asked a question by the cyclops, none of them spoke up because they were too scared, but Odysseus did. Odysseus went into Hell to find out about his family. Odysseus was bold enough to confront Prometheus when asked. Odysseus was courageous enough to Hell, where there were demons and ghosts, to get answers about his family. Both of these are examples of how Odysseus is an intrepid person that goes forward in the face of glory.

Odysseus spends 20 long years getting back to his family after he was forced to leave because he misses his wife and son. He chose his wife over two of the most beautiful women in the world.He spent 20 years fighting monsters, perils, and even the sea to get back to see his family that he never wanted to leave. He chose his wife over Circle and Calypso, which he was basically trapped with, but Hermes admired his determination. So he made Calypso let him go.
