Homer tells the tale of Odysseus, the clever hero returning home after a long war, in his epic poem, The Odyssey. In this story, Odysseus is the leader of Ithaca. He faces numerous challenges on this journey and his way back home from the Trojan War. The Odyssey story begins with Odysseus being held captive by a woman that goes by the name of Calypso. She wishes to make Odysseus fall in love with her in her palace for seven years, while waiting for his wife Penelope and his son Telemachus back at home in Ithaca. Odysseus encounters more problems such as the Cyclops, Circe and even the Poseidon that were intended to test his abilities throughout the whole story. Although Odysseus, the hero, ignores the temptation and the characteristics shown on Odysseus are strong leadership and confidence. He drags his men back on the ship and locks them where they can’t spread themselves to others and get them off the island. The concept of life during this story is that temptation is real and distractions can get in the way of goals and lead to slacking the benefit in life with letting that go, sometimes you have to give up something that you want, love or think you need in order to remind God that you are riding with him. One of the most memorable moments that Odysseus faced in the story is when the men and Odysseus headed to Cyclops island, this time Odysseus is faced with a bigger breast than the last one; The Cyclops, Polyphemus. Odysseus on his ship wanted to investigate a cavern anywhere near the mainland shore, leading himself right into his own trap of the want of food; while he and his men weren’t the ones getting that food, the Cyclops devoured several of Odysseus’ men before Odysseus showed a characteristic of being proud and intelligence of true
