The prison population is growing every day and as violent crimes continue to rise more juries are sentencing criminals to life n prison. As these inmates spend their life in prison, they get older will require medical treatment. The cost of corrections for the elderly has risen in numbers which the cost reached an all time high of 68,270 billion dollars per year. The older inmates present a new and difficult challenge to the prison system. These become special circumstances because there are about 2.3 million older adults in prison. When we think of inmates in the prison system, we think of young, aggressive prisoners.
