In terms of staying calm, I tend to get overwhelmed in stressful situations, which does not heed successful results. For example, when another student informed me of an impromptu in English class, I immediately stressed out. This reaction hindered my abilities when taking the test; I did not perform as well as I could have if I was not overwhelmed. For me, doubting myself comes hand in hand with the overwhelmed feeling. Going into the Lazarillo exam for Spanish, I kept thinking to myself and saying to others that I would not perform well, which kept me from doing my best when I took the test. I can use Mindfulness techniques to learn to stay calm in stressful situations. When I feel overwhelmed, I can use Mindful meditation to feel relaxed and at peace. As for self-doubt, I can continue with the Mindful practices of noticing my thoughts but letting them go. Another skill I need to develop to manage stress and ultimately be college and career ready is performing well under pressure. When I am in a high stakes situation, I usually only think about how important the event is, and then I fail to focus on my performance. At one of my golf meets this season, our team had a chance to place top three in the conference, and my score had a heavy impact on our ultimate placement. Throughout the nine holes, I focused on how important it was that I shot well but not my actual shots. Consequently, I did not shoot my best and our team placed fourth in the conference. I also lack a positive mindset in stressful situations; I know I tend to psyche myself out, like on the Lazarillo exam. Again, I can use Mindfulness techniques to perform better under pressure. I can use Mindful breathing before and during high stakes events to focus in on the task at hand. I can also use Mindfulness to control my thoughts and to think positively. To help
