Personal Narrative: My First Year Of High School Football

The ball hit my hands and bounced off the goal post, as my knees scraped against the rubber bits in the turf. The sun beat down on the turf as I pulled myself up from the ground. Blood rushed down my knees as I felt a stinging sensation pulsate throughout my knees. I came back to reality and heard loud cheers echoing around me. My teammates slapped my back, congratulating me. I thought there was no way that people are cheering for some freshman that has never played goalie. It was my first year of highschool soccer when goalie was introduced to me, that I realized change can be a good thing.
The first day of soccer practice was chaos. Our coach did not know us as players and nobody knew anything about each other. “Alright, do we have any goalies on this team?” my coach asked. Not one single hand went up or even a peep of noise came out of anyone’s mouth. “Does anyone have goalie gloves?” Coach said, I replied “I do”, “Fantastic can we use them?” “I guess” I said confused of why we needed gloves. Everybody sat down and relaxed. Something lightly tapped me on the shoulder, I turned around and saw the varsity coach. I was shocked, why would he want to talk to me? “ You did great out there,” he said “ I would like you to play up with my varsity girls and get a better feel for goalie.” My face got as red as a ripe tomato, and I could not believe that he had just said that to me. I walked back over to my team, and everybody started asking questions. I answered every single one. After we talked about things we could improve, it was time for the second half. Nobody scored and nobody really had shots. The game ended with a score of one to one. I grabbed my stuff and was about to head out, when people I did not even know told me I did great.
