In the beginning I was skeptical about taking this course because of my lack of writing skills. This course has helped me achieve my goal of becoming a better writer. Although, I still have a lot to improve in my writing. Peer review and editing has helped me learn how to write clearer. Writing is a process that involves several distinct steps: prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and final copy. Each step in the writing process helps to improve writing skills as well as to identify weaknesses and strengths. Therefore, it is important for a writer to work through each of the steps in order to ensure a polished piece.
My first step in writing was prewriting which consisted in brainstorming, gathering the data needed for the topic and outlining the essay. After choosing the topic of the paper, three main points were arranged in a chronological order. Peer review was done twice with two different classmates that provided feedback on the overall writing and strategies employed in writing. Their feedback helped me in identifying areas in the paper that needed to be clarified by further explaining the idea or by rephrasing the sentence. They were also checking for transitions, tone of voice in accordance with the chosen audience, etc. Since it is hard for me to identify my own mistakes peer review session was a way of guiding me in editing my paper before submitting my final copy. Peer reviewing facilitated the transition of going from drafting to editing by efficiently determining witch parts were unclear, incomplete or unconvincing. As I edited my assay I followed their suggestions and I also tried to improve my writing by reading it a couple of times to check for more
