I started my professional nursing career in 2010 as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) where I worked at an urgent care for 3 years and then briefly in home health care as I was completing the registered nurse (RN) degree program. After completing the transition from LPN to RN in 2013, I worked as a new graduate for about a year as a floor nurse on a cardiac heart unit. I currently work full time as a correctional RN for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitations and Corrections at the Noble Prison and have been employed there for a little over 3 years.

Traditionally higher education is frowned upon by the Mennonite church, especially for women. I essentially left all I knew to peruse a nursing career and higher education. The day I decided to go to college, I never dreamt I would successfully accomplish all I have. Working at my current place of employment as a correctional nurse has introduced me to a world of nursing I never dreamt I would enjoy as much as I do. The desire to show professional and understanding care to those who suffer from physical and mental illnesses pushes me to acquire more nursing knowledge. My ultimate goal is to continue my education and obtain my family nurse practitioner degree so that I may continue my career working with underserved
