I never wanted to be a nurse, I wanted to be a veterinarian.
My interest in nursing came to me after taking care of my mother who was battling lung cancer. My mother was on hospice and I would see the nurse come in 2 times a week to take vitals and do an assessment. I took my mother to her Dr. appointments, held her hand through chemotherapy, sat and watched her cry, tried to comfort her, made sure she took her medications and was always by her side anytime she would call. It was in 2011,1 year after being diagnosed with cancer, my mother passed away. It was at that time I decided I could do what I have been doing and help other people going through similar situations.
I started my nursing career in January 2014 at South Central Career Center

Three months later I went to work full time in the Intensive Care unit.
I work with a variety of people daily, age's newborn to 100+ years. My job responsibilities include: patient head to toe assessments, taking vitals, administering medications, helping them to the bathroom and other activities of daily living that they can no longer do themselves or without assistance, monitoring patients for any decline in condition and intervening appropriately. I communicate with Doctors, respiratory therapists, lab, pharmacy, dietary, other nurses and constantly strive about insuring the safety and well being of my patients at all times.
I am continuing my education in nursing starting January 2016 with English and Psychology prerequisites; In May 2016 I start my LPN-RN bridge program at Texas County Technical College (TCTC) in Houston, MO. The program is 3 semesters, I will go three days a week and it will take me one year to complete.I will graduate in May 2017 with my Academic Associate of Science Degree in Nursing. After graduation I will be able to test for my Registered Nurse license (RN-NCLEX). I plan to continue working in the Intensive Care Unit and possibly branch out to Hospice or in a Cancer Treatment
