ANNUAL TEACHING AWARDS 2015
WRITTEN STATEMENT – NINA VERETENNIKOVA

In 2002 I developed a passionate interest in yoga specifically in the Iyengar method. Initially, my commitment to attending classes was as means for me to maintain ability to demonstrate in the teaching of classical ballet technique as required in my current position of Dance Lecturer at The University of Melbourne.
In 2010 after 7 years of participating in classes for 6 hours a week and attending workshops I committed to attaining teaching qualifications in this form. Students taking the elective are required to keep a journal of their weekly experiences summarizing their findings and more importantly indicating how it has been of benefit across the years. As well as enabling me opportunity to review and show how the work is received it has also provided me with testimonials indicating its value.

I have completed stage 1 – Pre-training and opportunity exists in April 2016 for me to complete the next stage – Foundation training.
It is expected I complete further training in Gyrokinesis as the organization requires accredited teachers to update skills to keep up their license. I plan to take a module offered in January 2016, which will greatly benefit the Body Balance elective.
For the last 5 years the training intensives required for qualifications in these disciplines have occurred during my annual leave in December/January and mid-term/mid-year breaks. Whilst the leave has been Professional development, participating in them meant commitment to training for the training requiring up to 3 hours a day for 10 days to 2 weeks in practice and revision before doing
