I believe that life is a learning experience and being able to recognize our own strengths and weaknesses can help us become better individuals in anything we choose to do, whether it is positive abilities and skills that can help achieve our goals or negative personal areas that need improvement. Knowing yourself and what you can do, can help you recognize and overcome your weaknesses. According to the GALLUP strengths survey, my top five strengths are strategic, relator, arranger, restorative, and discipline. Strategic is “people who create especially talented in the strategic theme alternative ways to proceed. Faced with any given scenario, they can quickly spot the relevant patterns and issues” by GALLUP survey. What makes me stand out …show more content…
The arranger is people who can organize, and know how like to figure out how all the pieces and resources can be arranged for maximum productivity. What makes me stand out from the rest of my strengths is that I include details and step-by-step procedures to ensure consistent results. As a Resident Assistant you want to be able to learn so much about myself and how to handle situations and act professionally, help build a community of residents, learn how to work successfully as a team and having a positive impact on another person’s life. Having these strengths will make my RA position easy, because arranger is all about helping your residents discover ways to cooperate that they never before considered, and gain any insights about the ways particular individuals respond to one another when they are facing challenges or solving problems. What makes me stand out from the rest of the strengths is that I am determined to confront my weak points and correct them. As a Resident Assistant you want to be able to grow your weakness and not make the same mistake twice. For instance, in the book Lessons Learned by John Foubert chapter two talks about how one RA (Elizabeth) was never around with her resident and always spending time with her friends and her resident feel like they were being hated and she never had time for them but when she find out how her resident are thinking like that, she know something was going wrong. After talking to her residents and her RD (area coordinators), she learned that she needs to show her resident that she’s there for them for anything. What I learned from this situation is not to make the same mistake again, and learn from your mistake, and try to be around with your resident when they need you. You want to be able to reflect on what you should do better, more complete, or more perfectly. Helping students transition into a different phase of their lives is one way of showing how core strengths relate to the Resident Assistant. Conflict mediator plays a big role on the core strengths of the Resident Assistant Position. If a roommate is fighting, or if two or more residents fighting about something, having restorative as one of my strengths, I will be easy
