The political strategy of the GOP was certainly responsible for a large portion of their success in the midterm elections. After losing the 2008 presidential elections and then later on the 2012 elections, it could easily be assumed that the Republican Party was losing on all levels.
But upon further research, anyone can realize that the GOP is not only alive, but very active.
This can be narrowed down to main reasons, the first being that they managed to watch their words, at least on the public platform, and the second being that they manipulated the disappointments in the Democratic Party to work in their favor. Before anyone applauds the
“outstanding” and “brilliant” strategy of the GOP, it would suit them to make note of why they had any success at all, success that was a result of pointing fingers, keeping quiet, and frankly, crossing their fingers and hoping for the best.
It’s hard to claim a victory when there was no real effort exerted to achieve it. As mentioned by the Republican operative, the GOP nominee Cory Gardner ran a strong race due to his ability to watch his mouth. Set aside that what he had to say did little for his campaign, but instead, it seems what he didn’t say and kept to himself did more for him than much else. And in today’s political world, what you say on the public platform becomes associated with you and whoever you represent. In the past elections, careless statements made by the Republican Party were quickly answered with little support and passionate protest. And many times, it not only spoils their campaign and election, but also, their entire party’s approval rating among the voters.
This would explain the sudden spike of support when they manage to not make those same kinds of statements.
Along with this, the GOP managed to secure even more leverage against their opponents by simply reminding the people how many times and ways they’ve been disappointed with their opponent’s elected presidential candidate. In a way, they simply refocused the public’s attention to allow them time to sink back into silence where nothing can be held against them too threateningly. In reality, this really was a strategic move. The past two election periods have
