In the United States, one of the leading sales industries is that of cosmetics, which collectively earns billions of dollars a year. Some of the most famous cosmetic brands include L’Oréal, MAC, Maybelline, and Neutrogena, but besides the products that they sell, all of these brands have one thing in common: involvement in animal testing. Animal testing is used as an outdated form of security for humans against allergic reactions from new ingredients on the market. It most commonly used against rabbits, rats, and mice, though it is not limited to these three species. The biggest rut that companies presently face is the animal testing regulation laws of other countries and the constant research for easy and cheap alternative methods of testing. However, there are many cosmetic brands that have successfully created cruelty free brands, including famous makeup brand Urban Decay, proving that it is entirely possible and still safe for humans if done correctly, but the world still sees hundreds of thousands of animals die each year in testing laboratories for no necessary reason.
