Models are people whom everyone thinks are perfect and flawless; however even they have many imperfections. In the harsh world of modelling even plus-sized models can be too short or their nose may be too big. Plus-sized modelling is on the increase in popularity showing people that it is ok to be “fat and fabulous” however there is a factor that needs to be addressed here and that is that the model being of a certain weight may be unhealthy therefore portraying a unhealthy body image. One of which is the environment around us. A study was conducted on females and males aged 14 to 18, the study illustrated that more than 59% of females and 29% of males were trying to lose weight. The methods of losing weight included: exercising, using diet pills and not eating for 24 hours or more. Self-objectification plays an important role in body image as it can lead to diminishing self-esteem, body dysmorphia, eating disorders and depression.
