Persuasive Speech Class

I would describe myself as a very extroverted person. Any personality test I’ve taken has said that I am an extrovert. Usually when I meet a person for the first time, I present myself more formally before I get a feel for who that person is. Most people who know me say that I have a voice that is projects loudly. Once I have become more comfortable around a group of people, my voice becomes louder, sometimes too loud for some. Growing up, I used to use the word “like” a lot when I told stories. I don’t notice that I do it as much today, but I know it probably slips out here and there. I wouldn’t know if I give good speeches or now. Growing up, I always wrote persuasive essays, but it was always my weakest way of writing. I know that one if the three speeches that will be given in this class is a persuasive speech, so I would like to get preparation for that. When I was in seventh grade, my class had to write persuasive essays to our principle about what improvements we wanted to make in our school, and I chose to get bigger lockers. As I was writing, my essay slowly changed from persuasive to informational. Rather than explaining why our school needed bigger lockers, I explained what lockers are used for. I do enjoy working in groups and I love taking a leadership role, but sometimes I feel that I am not assertive enough. I know that in a group, you have to sacrifice some of your opinions or ideas so that everyone is equal, but I have found myself in groups where there could have been better communication. I have worked in group with four people, and we split the work up evenly. I found that there was two of us who were putting in the time and work, while the others did not pull their weight. Instead of being assertive and telling them to participate, I just let them sit back while I did their work, which is not good communication. I should have let them know that they needed to spend more time on the project. I think a great way to make sure the group is all on track is just by checking in on each person to make sure everyone is doing their
