Introduction
The police officers in the nations have a responsibility to make sure that the security of the citizens is prioritized. However, with the militarization of the local police departments and the failing structure of community policing raises more questions than answers about the ability of the police departments to take care of the citizens. The way the police officers are handling the issue of policing has led to the citizens losing faith in the police. It is within the law for a police officer to pursue justice but in line with the law in place. However, that seems to be contrary to what the police officers have been doing. Keefe (2018) recollects some of the incidences, which have brought out the aspect of police brutality. Even though Keefe (2018) has not focused on the SWAT, it is apparent that his argument is of concern as far as the excessive use of force by the police is concerned. The death of Staten Island, the fatal shooting incidence of Michael Brown, the incidence where Walter Scott was shot from behind, and the destruction of Freddie Gray's spine in the hands of the police officers are just but a few cases that shows how the police department has become the taker of lives rather than the protectors of the innocent citizens. According to Hidell (2015), the initiative of community policing has been swept under the rag, and the government is just left with figures that it used to boost the initiative. There are many matters that need to be addressed if the community policing initiative is to succeed. Though there have been complaints about the lack of enough resources, it is apparent that the structures which are supposed to make the initiative work are not in place. It would not be possible for police officers to be expected to deal with the community members while they have already created a barrier that makes it hard for the two parties even to have a session where they can exchange ideas. The police officers have adopted an attitude that makes them view the community members as potential criminals, and that affects the way they treat the community members. As a result, it becomes a challenge for the police departments and the community members to work
