As noted in the documentary, the use of force towards people suspected of drug use is often excessive and unnecessary, and determining the role of police force in many cases can be challenging due to multiple conflating factors (Shum, 2024). In another example of police brutality, a teenager named Ryan Gainer was fatally shot by a police officer outside his home (Lartey, 2024). In this case, Gainer was both autistic and Black, which greatly increased the likelihood that he would be unjustly targeted by police officers. Lartey (2024) explains that people with disabilities such as autism often display traits that police officers have specifically been trained to identify when assessing a potentially dangerous
