Learning the laws in which the people of the United States live by is an extremely important part of the academy. FBI agents must complete 20 weeks of academic training where they learn a variety of subjects. On the other hand, Police officers academic training is completed in 27 weeks where they too must learn the basics. Within each academic training, both FBI and police recruit’s must learn the constitutional law. The constitutional law is a very big part of the academy. It explains the power government has in enforcing the laws as well as the right that each individual has. However, police officers must also learn about the doctrines in their jurisdiction. Police officers only have jurisdiction in the sate/city that they were sworn in from. FBI agents on the other hand, are federal workers that go where they are needed at the time. Police officers mainly focuses on patrol functions when in the academy while FBI recruits focus on investigations. FBI agents investigate a series of problems from corruption to terrorism. FBI recruits must also work on their physical abilities. Being able to pursue a suspect, individuals must be physically fit to get the job done. Apart from being in shape both FBI and police recruits must learn defense tactics. Defense tactics are important so that individuals are capable of protecting themselves from harm that may come their way while in the line of duty.
