A time in my life where I had learned helplessness was when I was in high school playing volleyball. I had a coach who liked to play favorites and I felt like no matter what I did and how hard I worked that I would not get to play. It was hard to cope with because I felt so frustrated and discouraged. I related to the video when the experiment with the three mice were brought up. When the subordinate mouse did not even try to stop the shock even when he did have control was really sad, but that is similar to how I felt. I stopped working hard and did not even enjoy playing volleyball for a while. It took me awhile to come to terms with everything. However, I believe that facing all of life’s problems and obstacles with a smile makes it that much easier. I have become an optimist because there are just some things that I cannot control and as long as I am happy it will somehow work out. Some suggestions from positive psychology that I currently incorporate into my life are exercise, volunteering, and focusing more of experiences than things. I exercise in some way everyday whether it be walking with my dog or playing competitive volleyball. I love exercising because it allows you to take your mind off of some of the stresses in your life and enjoy yourself. I also love volunteering at my local hospital. And honestly I have always said that I do it for a selfish reason because it not only helps other people but it makes me feel good and makes me feel like I am making a difference. However, there are some things in positive psychology that I want to work on getting better at. I want to try a time journal and yoga. These are things that have always interested me but I have never made time for them and I think it is important that I start making these changes now. I think that setting aside time at the end of the day to right in a journal, do some yoga, meditate, and sit back and think about all the blessings I have to be thankful for will make me happier in life and promote a healthier
