The article upon was The Effects of Controlled Breathing during Pulmonary Rehabilitation in patients with COPD. This research is trying to determine if controlled breathing, when added with pulmonary rehabilitation, would have an effect on the rehabilitation of COPD patients. They hypothesized that the group utilizing controlled breathing techniques would benefit more from the rehabilitation than those who did not use the techniques. As stated in the article, the requirements in order to participate in the lab were a clinically stable disease, age of 40 to 75, as well as certain requirements based on if they were fit enough to participate. The people who were asked to participate in the study would have COPD; any other disease or anyone with other respiratory issues could not participate in the study. One group worked on respiratory training, while the other group did cardiopulmonary exercise training which involves strength training. Eventually these two groups were evaluated over the period of the trial to see the effects in certain areas, like the 6-minute walking test, cardiac autonomic function, pulmonary function and overall health-related quality of life. In order to measure these tests, they used certain software and questionnaires in order to record results. For the breathing techniques of the controlled breathing group, they used respiration receptors. Once the results were compiled, it was found out that controlled breathing did not have a greater effect on the members who utilized these techniques during pulmonary rehabilitation than those who did not, as stated in the article Controlled Breathing during Pulmonary Rehabilitation in Patients with
