A quinceanera is a Hispanic birthday tradition for a girl turning 15. The celebrations embrace religious customs, and the virtues of family and social responsibility . A Quinceanera recognizes the girls journey throughout her life so far and how she matures. The customs include God, family, friends, music, food, and dancing. Now the Hispanic heritage is also celebrating a girl’s “sweet sixteen.” For their “sweet sixteens” they do the Quinceanera traditions plus they give the girl a tiara with the number sixteen on it. In the Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban and South American traditions they refer to the Quinceanera as Quince Anos, a Quinces, A Quinceanere, a Quinceanero or a Fiesta Rosa. They young girl usually chooses special friends to participate in what they call a “Court of Honor.” most of the time the people who participate in this are her closest friend, brothers, sisters, and her cousins. She usually wears a ball gown and her court usually wears a gown and tuxedos. The Quinceanera receives a Tiara, Cross or medal, and a bible or prayer book and rosary. The accessories include a flower bouquet, cake decorations, cake server set champagne glasses, the last doll, guest book, photo album, invitations, ceremony pillows ,and guest favors. One of the most popular traditions throughout the Quiceanera celebration is the changing of the shoes. The father changes the girls shoes from flat to heels. This is a way of the transformation of a little girl to a young lady. At the ceremony, a kneeling pillow is placed in position for the young girl to kneel during the ceremony. There is a touch of elegance is added with smaller decorative pillows for the gifts she receives such as a tiara a scepter and the heels. Also at the reception they have a toast to the Quinceanera. The guest are offered to give there best wishes with decorative champagne glasses. The
