Does eating red meat pose a threat to an individual’s health all while increasing the risk of heart disease and cancer or has red meat been wrongfully criticized for something it is not? In 2015 the general view of the public revolving around red meat is that red meat isn’t healthy for your health and it is important when eating red meat to watch out for your intake level and manage the portion you eat. Many studies have been done to find out whether red meat is bad for you and in most cases the studies show a correlation between red meat and increased risk of heart disease and several types of cancers. When it comes red meat and heart disease the danger threat is more evident because “some red meats are high in saturated fat, which raises blood cholesterol. High levels of LDL cholesterol increase the risk of heart disease” (Elizabeth Lee). Although the high levels of LDL cholesterol and saturated fats sound frightening it doesn’t directly prove or mean that they are the cause and therefore should be completely eliminated from your diet it is also important to …show more content…
All these rules sound grueling and tedious and although I personally believe in portion size the reputation of the government MyPyramid hasn’t exactly been correct only due to the fact that it changes almost every decade and with each change comes a new confounding diet to withhold in order to become healthy. The guidelines the previous generation followed before are not the guidelines we follow today and our diet guidelines most likely won’t be the same the next generation
