The American Revolutionary War
In 1775, the United States began fighting for its independence. Both the United States and Great Britain had a hard time trying to survive the elements of war (“Overview of the American Revolutionary War”). The Americans and Great Britain are about to go into a very important War (“Overview of the American Revolutionary War”). The Revolutionary War was a very important battle in U.S. history. Life was not easy during this time period. Both sides were determined to win this battle with their army. The Revolutionary War was a major part in history. Great Britain leave out “had” tried to keep the colonies under British rule (Jasanoff).

The soldiers got small amounts of food and liquids, usually one pound of beef and bread, and one gill of either whiskey or rum (“Overview of the American Revolutionary War”). There was a lot of bloodshed in the south, gangs of loyalists would attack each other and destroy plantations. Some of the biggest battles happened after the surrender at Yorktown (Jasnoff). Due to the fighting about half of the loyalists left to go to north Canada , settling in the province of Nova Scotia.These people became pioneering settlers in the province of New Brunswick …show more content…
The army had one hundred and fifty thousand troops but only had around seventeen thousand troops fighting at take away any one time (“Overview of the American Revolutionary War”). The British Army had upwards of twenty two thousand troops at its peak but also had twenty-five thousand loyalists faithful to Britain (“Overview of the American Revolutionary War”).
Both sides had field artillery including three, six and eighteen pounder guns, named for the weight shot out of the guns. Some soldiers also had Howitzer short barrel guns. They also had larger cannons and mortar. These weapons lobbed large caliber projectiles in high arcs onto their targets. They were often used in sieges given their destructive capabilities. The Generals were armed with small pistols and saber which were swords (“Overview of the American Revolutionary War”).
Life was hard for the soldiers during the war. Many were killed and wounded. Soldiers on both sides gave it their all. All of this fighting became known as the American Revolutionary War which led to America winning its independence from Great Britain.
