Surealism started in France in 1924 by Leader André Breton. He thought that Surrealism was a revolutionary movement.Surrealism aimed to change human experience, making things seem less realistic and more like a dream. The poets and artists who worked on surrealism found magic and different beauty in the unexpected and different things that most people would think were normal or ordinary. The word surrealist means unreal or not realistic, Guillaume Apollinaire who was a French poet came up with it in a play he wrote in 1903. And it was performed in 1917. But it was André Breton, leader of a new group of poets and artists from Paris. Dali was a very smart kid even from a young age but he had a bad temper and got in trouble a lot. In 1916 when his parents realized how much talent he had they sent him to drawing school at the Colegio de Hermanos Maristas and the Instituto in Figueres, Spain.He didn't take school serious, he usually would daydream in class. He stood out because he usually was wearing odd clothing and had long hair. After his first year in art school he found modern painting in Cadaques when he was on a vacation with his family. On vacation he met Ramon Pichot who was a local artist who frequently visited Paris. The next year his father put together an exhibit of Salvador's charcoal drawings in at there family's house. In 1919 Salvador had his first public exhibit on display at the Municipal Theatre of Figueres.In 1922, Dalí enrolled at the Academia de San Fernando in Madrid and one year later he was suspended from the academy for criticizing his teachers and starting a riot among students over the academy's professors the same year he was arrested and was put in prison for short time in Gerona because he supported the Separatist movement. . He went back to the academy in 1926, but he was permanently expelled
