On September 8, 2017, I interviewed Ms. McCaskill, the school administrator of The Bonnie Springer School. Ms. McCaskill is an administrator who wears numerous hats and identifies administrating as an integral component designed to improve school and student performance. As the school administrator of The Bonnie Springer School, Ms. McCaskill provides a robust focus on school success. She identifies school success as a critical component beginning with the role of a school administrator who she states has major responsibility for ensuring that all students achieve academic success along with completing college and career-readiness standards. McCaskill was; what are your responsibilities as a school administrator? She highlighted she wears various hats and her role includes: an educational visionary; instructional and curriculum leader; assessment specialist; disciplinary; community builder; budget analyst; and many more roles. She also emphasized a school administrator has the responsibility of being advisors to parents/guardians, teachers, students, district officials, and state/federal agencies. Ms. McCaskill indicated administering a school is a powerful growth experience, which consists of commitment and engagement from the school administrator and all school personnel. When asked how she identifies successfully administrating: Ms. McCaskill identified successfully administrating as a reflective practice that takes preparation, dedication, and time. When asked what the most challenging role of her job: Ms. McCaskill indicated the importance of being consistent every day in carrying out her duties to improve student performance and conduct. She identified consistency as a necessary element in the creation of successful schools. Ms. McCaskill highlighted the importance of school administrators communicating clear rules, policies, requirements, and expectations for everyone.
