At San Juan’s k-8 school in sacramento, CA. 52% of the students qualified for free or reduced-price lunches. The district this year is on course to serve about 600,000 fewer lunches to those students than it did last year. One school district alone is serving 600,000 less lunches because of how it tastes and looks. This is why we should improve the quality of food because it is keeping kids from getting all the necessary food they need and also all the nutrients a growing body needs.
Most kids in public schools don’t eat purely because the food is not appetizing. Our mind works in such a way that if something does not look good or smell good, we naturally lose our appetite. So we don't eat as much or at all. But this may be because of the manufacturers of the food. But it is most likely due to the carelessness of the ladies that prepare the food. Maybe not even carelessness of the preparers but the limited amount of time that they have to prepare the food before the kids come and eat it. This is especially a problem in high schools. In the past lunches in this area were paid for by our parents. now our regular servings of food is minimum. But if we wanted to get extra food you paid MORE money to get a full stomach. But it didn’t affect us as much if we couldn’t get extras because we were younger and not growing as fast as we are right now. But lunches are free to us now which saves our families hundreds of dollars a year. But there is almost never enough food on the line for a teen that is growing at an incredible rate. Sometimes there is only a taco, potato, and apple to eat. That just isn’t enough for anybody to eat. But to get a full stomach you have to pay. What’s the point if we just have to pay money to get full and free food that doesn’t fill
