When a loved one is no longer eligible to take care of themselves, the families first thought is to take care of them themselves. After some time they come to realize that taking care of their loved ones simply does not fit their busy schedule. For others their first and only thought is to put them in a senior home so they can get rid of them easier. Having a loved one in a senior home isn't cheap but you get what you pay for. Senior homes need to better their staff, pay, and policies. Even at the “greatest” senior homes there residents are treated as if they were animals. Increasing the hourly wage will motivate the staff to worker harder. A lot of staff complain that they don't get paid enough for what they have to do and they end up doing half of the work. Also with a higher wage there would be more motivated workers. When an employee is getting paid sufficient amount of money for the work they have to do they will do it proudly. There will also be less call outs and it will be rare for there to be a call out. According to the National League for Nursing, a Certified Nursing Assistant that works in a senior home makes an average of $26,000 a year. A CNA is the one who does all of the work when it comes to the care of a resident and they also have to clean the bathroom of the resident if the resident made a mess with their feces. When staff feel like they deserve better they quit their job in hopes to find a better one. This causes a great downfall for facilities because they have to find new staff and within that process they don't have enough staff. Being understaffed in a senior homes is one of the reasons of abuse. According to the Nursing Home Abuse Center, understaffing of the nursing facility can indirectly cause nursing home abuse because overwhelmed and underpaid nursing home staff members and caregivers are more likely to be abusive to a nursing home
