Punishment Goals
Many people have ideas on which punishment is too rough even for criminals. This is a huge topic in our society and attention is drawn to this even more within the Criminal Justice System or even as a student of Criminal Justice. Though we all have differing opinions on what is too severe for a punishment. I think we can all agree some form of punishment needs to be dealt with criminals of any kind. In this paper, I will focus on the importance and goals of sentencing as well as give you an example for each. Another thing I will cover is what I believe to be effective deterrents aiding society into lessening crime.

However, I considered the philosophy and goals of the Criminal Justice System in this paper. The goals can range from Retribution of a crime to Incapacitation, Deterrence, Rehabilitation, and Recreation, although that is only a few of the goals of the criminal justice sentencing. (Schmalleger, F. (2017). Retribution is the action taken by the court to help right the wrong and make a criminal pay to the fullest extent of the law for what they have done. A criminal may face this retribution goal if the person committed major bodily harm to a number of people without showing remorse. They may be sentenced to death as the only way the criminal can pay for what they have done. The criminal justice system usually saves this for the major crimes committed by another person which inflicts great bodily harm or death, as that is the worst crime you can commit in the eyes of the justice system. Incapacitation is the is the second goal of criminal sentencing as it is used to imprison someone to reduce the likelihood that an offender will commit future offenses once they are released. Incapacitation
