Addressing Issues of Christians Working in Other Nations As a Christian, one must be cognizant of what the great commission is, and how one can share, with others in society the love of Christ. For this reason, based on the great commission, the workplace is a venue, and an opportunity for the believer to live out one’s faith in being an example as an upright Christian leader. As Christians, in the marketplace, organizational ethics can be enhanced, as Christians demonstrate the values that Christianity espouses. The author notes that most organizations will have a code of ethics, however, code of ethics are not enough to prevent organizational members from making unethical decisions. Furthermore, Christian’s are the examples in the marketplace when working internationally, especially with members from other religions. Christian leaders can demonstrate the deep commitment to ethical behavior, that is rooted in Christian values and beliefs. Moreover, Christian ethics starts with the leadership showing their fellow employees love and kindness in the form of servant leadership. An effective Christian leader has significant influence to shape the culture of the workforce and should consider the work-life balance of the subordinates. Work-life balance is the “shared assumptions, beliefs and values regarding the extent to which an organization supports and values the integration of employees’ work and family lives”. When leaders couple managerial support of expressing appreciation for subordinates with work-life balance to creates a work friendly environment. Studies also supports that informal managerial support of employees that is not driven by the organization is more effective than formal policies. Hence it behooves a Christian leader to exhibit genuine support, care and kindness towards a diverse staff as research indicates the leaders behavior is a predictor of commitment and loyalty to the organization (Agarwala, et al., p.1464, 2014) and ultimately the Christian leader’s behavior reflects the leader’s Christian faith. The Word of God proclaims in John 10:10 that Christ came “that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (NKJV) and this scripture underscores the Christian’s responsibility of sharing God’s love with others by living a Christ like life that draws individuals to him.
