Taking part in this service learning, “The Bone Academy,” should help to introduce my classmates and I to working with children. These children will be about four and five and most probably cannot read or write yet. Teaching the four and five year old children the bones and information about the bones should be an interesting, but also somewhat challenging task for this reason. Even though some parts of this service learning may be difficult and others easy, I am sure that it will be a great experience to be a part of. I am expecting that through the activities of “The Bone Academy” and talking with the child, I should be able to teach the child I am paired with the bones and information about them.
I expect the children to respond and remember the bones and other information depending on the activities. If it is an activity was to color a picture of a bone, I would expect them to remember it more easily because coloring may make them focus on the structures that help to differentiate the bone form other bones. I feel that they will comprehend the some of the bones more if they have the opportunity to pick one out on their own and are then told more about the one that they chose. Children have a wide range of personalities and energy levels. Depending on the child, it can make this service learning project a challenge. The child I am paired with may be shy, energetic and so on. This can make it difficult to get the child to participate in the learning activities taking place. I also expect that it may be easier if the child I am paired with wanted to be a part of the service learning experience and wants to take part in the activities and learn. Whether the child is shy, energetic, aggressive, or a rule-follower, I am sure that they will teach me how to work with someone like them in the
