Sexual assault is an extremely serious issue, which is present in almost all communities, and this issue causes several permanent traumas to its victims. Due to its complexity, the government of every country in the world has struggled to find the most efficient strategies, which are applicable to the country’s reality to overcome the problem. In the USA, the federal government created laws that help to prevent sexual assault and other crimes, but local administrations also have the obligation of developing strategies to tackle the issue according to the reality in its region or community. His purpose is to raise awareness about sexual assault on UA campus and to persuade the victims of sexual assault to report more because sexual assault is one of the most underreported crimes in the UA campus. According to Barrera “the number of reports of cases of sexual assault has gone up considerably in the last 5 years due to the outreach the has gone campus wide through the UAPD, Dean of Student, campus health, ASUA” (Barrera). He also mentions that these organizations have the responsibility of helping every victim of sexual assault since many of the victims get traumatized after being assaulted. Barrera recognizes that the there is still a lot of work to do by the organizations responsible for tackling the issue, but the UA community should collaborate by reporting so that justice can be made. Barrera stablishes credibility, reasonableness, trustworthiness and confidence when he was explaining that the UA uses its resources effectively, but there is still room for improvement. I believe that the most efficient rhetorical strategies were the ones used by Alyson Dorf because of the real-life story based presented by her, which is heart touching, and the sources that she used to support her statements and to emphasize the most important aspects of the story; consequently, she shows awareness of context, integrity, character, good judgment, and confidence, which clearly appeals to her audience ethics. In addition, I also could conclude that the causes of the sexual assaults are not clearly identified, and further studies are required to find out the main cause of these types of crime on UA campus and the most effective approach that can be used to increase the number of reports. It is very important that the UA community collaborate with the different organizations and programs existent on campus to guarantee the well-being of the entire community by reporting, diffusing the message that sexual assault can and must stop immediately. In addition, the University should organize more events in which the students and staff can learn and debate about sexual assault.
