Although any people believe college football players shouldn’t be paid, there are many reasons why they should be. First off, the college itself makes millions off of the players. Not to mention, football players risk their careers, not only in games, but also during practice. For many of the players this is no longer just a game, this is a life style. In the contrary, many people believe players shouldn’t be paid. One of the biggest arguments is because the majority of players have free tuition for the college they play for. In addition, with money comes more responsibility. During college, students don’t know how to handle money. College football is also a form of education for the big leagues. They are gaining the critical skills necessary …show more content…
One reason why they shouldn’t be paid is because it’s a privilege to play for a college team, especially if your tuition is being paid. Furthermore, if a college athlete were to be paid they could focus more on the money and not the game. Lots of these athletes will be exposed to abusing of this money. The athletes could use it for partying, drugs, alcohol, and many other things that could cause them to not do so good on the field or at practice. With money comes responsibilities, and some of these athletes aren’t mature or wise enough to use the money for their necessary needs instead of things that could affect their game. For example Johnny Manziel is at risk of ruining his career, and he’s not even a college athlete. Johnny Manziel has had numerous problems with the law and his team. He is known for partying and having a drinking problem. This has cause Manziel to be late to practice, pay fines, and not be appealing to any team in the NFL. That’s a big problem for him, because he’s a free agent, meaning he has yet to sign a contract with a team. This is a player already in the big leagues; now imagine a college athlete being paid to play and what they would do with the money. One just never knows what to expect from each player.
