I, Sir Gawain, have had my strengths and weaknesses shown many times when facing many challenges. The greatest challenge was when I was challenged by the Green Knight and the journey it took to complete his challenge. In this journey, I faced the temptation of lust from a man’s fair wife and I faced the challenge of producing the courage to keep to my word and accept the Green Knight’s jest with grace. I take the knight’s code very seriously and have struggled through certain parts of these challenges. The difficulty of this conquest was momentous and forced me to represent Arthur’s knights with strain. The first substantial challenge I faced was the temptation presented by a man’s mistress. One request he made, three days before I had to leave and journey to the Green Knight, was that we play a game. In this game he would go and hunt, while I stayed in his home, and whatever he won from his hunt he would give to me; likewise whatever I won from his home I would give to him. The first day of us playing this game, his wife came into my room while he was out hunting and professed her love to me. Claiming to have fallen for me and suggested she wished to cheat on her husband. I politely turned her down with as much grace as possible. Yet, she wished to kiss me before parting from my room, and so I did. When her husband got home we did as promised and he gave me his game he received while I gave him the kiss I received. The events of the previous day repeated and ended with me receiving his game and him receiving a kiss. On the third day, I broke our pact by not giving him all I had won. I had won a belt that would prevent me from death and did not give this to him. Once I came up to the green knight, I expressed my deep sorrow for this wrong
