The dermis is the next layer located below the epidermis. The dermis is very complex and contains two layers. These two layers are known as the papillary and reticular layer. These two layers are extremely similar. The papillary layer contains loose connective tissue and the reticular layer contains dense connective tissue. Some of the papillae located in the dermis is used to nourish the epidermis. Oddly enough, this same papillae created the arches and ridges in our finger prints. The reticular layer contains sweat glands, sensory receptors, smooth muscles and hair follicles. The function of sweat glands are to get rid of unwanted waste and regulate body temperature. Sensory receptors help humans have the touch-feeling sensation and are also located in the dermis. Also, hair follicles help protect and regulate body temperature. Next, the erector pili senses cold or emotional situations is what causes "goose bumps". The dermis is more known as the "control center" of the skin and has many technical aspects about it. Without this layer humans would constantly have clogged glands and would not be able to have any feeing
