The Social Disorganization Theory was a research case study by Shaw and McKay. They concluded that crime rates and deviance in an area was determined by social variation or social change. Urbanization, industrialization, mobility, population diversity were all example of social change that was associated with high rates of deviance. Also, they concluded that the rate of deviance was based on the area, not the individual. In addition, based on the concentric zone model, the closer the individual lives to the central business district, the higher rates of deviance.
