What is this "black" in black popular culture? (Rethinking Race)
Stuart Hall.
Abstract: The margins of postmodern culture, including the black popular culture, have been an extremely productive space that has introduced an element of difference in the complex struggle over cultural hegemony. Black culture exhibits both the influence of its African heritage and the diasporic conditions in which it developed and is a hybrid rather than a pure form. It is uniquely characterized by its emphasis on style, music and the use of the body.
