In the healthcare setting, nurses are the information holders who make an impact on patient care. In this writing assignment, we will explore in what ways impact education in a patient’s care. This writing assignment will also explore how the worlds of psychology as well as nursing combine to contribute to healthcare. Multiple theories from the world of psychology have helped to shape nursing into what it is today. It is with these principles and theories we are able to facilitate better learning techniques as well as tools to help educate our patients better.(Bastable, 2014)

Chapter 1 of the readings essentially speaks about how the role of the nurse is evolving. Instead of being just a hands-on role, the nurse acts as the holder of the information. Nursing roles have evolved into the roles of educating and teaching the patient. The nurse must be responsible for the active learning and teaching roles they play in patient care. For an example, if a nurse is not proficient in IV starts then it is very much the nurse's responsibility to educate themselves to increase their skill level. There are a variety of theories that are used to help shape the way a person learn and how we as nurses can use the variety of ways to help educate our patients. It points out that healthcare professionals are not required to know every single thing about the teaching and learning process. The text also states that the educator/teacher plays an important role in learning through the process of role modeling. To be effective the nurse must be knowledgeable as well as competent.
