The Lascaux cave paintings where a bit different from anything we did in this stream, for one thing the smell. But I guess it’s going to smell bad when you burn animal fat also known as lard (one of the materials we used to make the paint). In this project we got to make our own paint the paint was made from a pigment, a binder, and a solvent. Different materials made different colors like when we combined lard honey and crushed berries from outside we got a tan color. The Lascaux caves are located in France and the caves have been closed to the public since the year 1963. The Lascaux paintings were discovered by four teenage boys in September 1940. There are 600 paintings of horses, bison, wild cattle, and ibexes, at rest, jumping or running. The Paintings are known to be 15,000 to 17,000 years old
Leaf Drawings
In our leaf drawings it was a long process. The day we did these Mr. Dennis took us outside we had to pick out a leaf we liked. Then had activated our senses by clapping our hands and slapping our cheeks a little. After that we had to study and observe our leaves and imagine if it had feelings what would they be in words. When we had finished sharing the words we wrote we went back inside and drew them. We had to include every little detail from the leaf. When you finished you would show it to Mr. Dennis he would check it approve it and mat it on black paper. Finally when all that was done you would go back to your list of words and use them to make a poem.
Tessellation
Our tessellations where a series of shapes all connected to make a pattern sometimes the shapes leave behind extra space that make an even cooler object. What we did was cut out tons of shapes to figure out a pattern but when we did we had to make sure that the pattern could be repeated. Islamic art is made up of tessellations. An example of a tessellation is when you take a hexagon and put two triangles inside of it.
Painting
In our painting we got to do a still life in these we got to paint fruit. But we didn’t just paint fruit we did shading and shadowing. We used black and white paint to do tinting and shading. Tinting is when you add white to a color. Shading is when you add black to a color.
Amate Bark Paintings
Our amate bark paintings are really different from regular paintings. For one thing boiling the inner bark of a tree makes the paper they paint on. The paper would be painted on using a brush and rolled up or folded for storage. Amate is a form of paper manufactured in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. Our paper how ever is made from taking newspaper ripping it up, putting it in a blinder, soaking it in water, using a wood frame to shape the paper, and putting it on a shelf to dry.
Wire sculptor
Wire sculptor may have been my favorite thing we did this whole stream. When we did wire sculptor our teacher Mr. Barrow let us pick what we did. I saw this as a great opportunity to show people my great art skills. But it seemed to others it was to just play with wire and beads. Although some people did do truly astounding with there sculptors.
Linoleum block printing
With this project it looks totally different then you think, what we did here is like carving. How you ask well what we did was get a square of linoleum. But even before that we had to figure out what we would put on it. When you had an idea you would sketch the picture
