Solitary confinement has been in place for centuries. Solitary confinement is when a prisoner is forced to be put in complete isolation from others. It was put in place to prisoners who pose a threat to others around them or themselves. Prisoners are placed in solitary confinement for many reasons: as punishment, a mechanism for behavior modification, when suspected to be in a prison gang or fighting other inmates.Those who are placed in solitary confinement have limited access to human interaction and are usually allowed to their cell for one hour a day to shower and exercise.
