Would you rather be in the military for two years (Athens) or almost your whole life (Spartans)? In my opinion, Athens is the ideal society for its citizens because of its military, school, government, and role of women. In these pages, you will see how Athens is a way better civilization than the Spartans. Background information: Women in Athens had very little power and were owned by men. The men would go to school from six to seventeen and then once they turned 18 they would go to military school for two years and then it was optional to stay in the military and fight for their civilisation. The crazy part is that Athens had more soldiers than Spartans, even though it was optional to join the military. I also do think getting forced into the military until you are sixty is very harsh and should not be allowed in any civilisation, country, or empire.Overall, Athens had a better military than the Spartans because they won the war. The first reason that Athens had a better education is that they taught real subjects like reading and math, unlike the Spartans who taught how to be in the military or how to fight. My last piece of evidence is that Athens had real schools like we do today, but the Spartans only had military schools. So that means that the Spartans had no real education but to learn and fight in the military, which is not ideal for any human being to have no education.
