Stereotypes: Video Analysis

When a stereotype threat is present during tests, minorities tend to only perform up to 50% of their actual potential. But when a stereotype is not present during tests, minorities tend to outperform their peers. I think that it is important to discourage stereotype in order to ensure the best performance from your students or coworkers. This statistic, along with other questions about stereotypes, is mentioned to the participants in my video and their opinions all varied. Throughout the duration of my interviews, I have noticed that they all have varying encounters with Stereotypes.

Julian Martinez had been stereotyped before, but what surprised me was the fact that even though he knew what it felt like to be stereotyped he still doesn’t think stereotypes should be eliminated. Julian understands there are many different stereotypes embedded in the human brain yet he doesn't think all of them should be eliminated because without them the world would hold less interest in others. This interview has shown that if the human brain thinks there is even a 1% truth to stereotypes, we think stereotyping is justified. Through his interview participants that stereotype others believe there is humor to the stereotypes. That stereotypes are all a big joke. While a portion of that is true, not all people stereotype others to get attention or make a joke. Some stereotypes are there because society believes it holds truth to it words. I agree that society started to create stereotypes as a way to entertain themselves, and I also believe we will do everything in our power to keep stereotypes right where they are because without them the world would be
