The Impact of Stereotyping Stereotyping is an overall image or idea that is engraved into our society today. It is a part of our everyday lives without us even consciously knowing it most of the time. Although stereotyping has been around for as long as we can remember and happens all around us, it should not be taken lightly. The negative effects stereotyping causes creates an enormous problem in our nation. Not only does it impact the individual being stereotyped, but also the individual implementing the stereotype. I did not find the statement true or amusing, so being the vocal person that I am, I voiced my opinion. It eventually escalated to an entire lesson as to why no gender is more dominant than the other and women deserve to be treated equally as men. I enlightened the male about discrimination women face all over the world due to stereotypes that is not fair or deserved. The most common discrimination against women is their work ethic. The gender pay gap has been a topic of discussion and problem in the United States for awhile now. On average, women earn less than men in almost every single occupation. Women workers are paid 20 percent less than male workers just because of their gender. Women’s work ethic is often stereotyped and men’s work ethic is often desired. I was shocked that he had the nerve to make that remark and think it would not offend me. I mostly felt belittled and displeased that he would have the audacity to say something like that. I felt sorry for the male for being closed minded and not taking into consideration that his own mother, grandmother, or any other woman in his life have most likely experienced being treated less than what they are. Gender stereotypes create bias and prejudice against women. It discriminates towards women at home, in the workforce, and society all
