ICC Objective #1: Understand basic scientific principles and facts as well as the methods that natural scientists use to study the physical world
Describe how the stress response works in the human body and explain the purpose of why humans have a natural built in stress response (fight or flight).
Stress is something that all humans experience in their daily live. The definition by the Stress Management Society states, “Stress happens when we feel that we can't cope with pressure and this pressure comes in many shapes and forms, and triggers physiological responses.” We stress when we have pressure that we can’t handle or usually the situation is out of control and that is when we are physical and mentally is pressurized and stressed. The article, … mentions the affect of genial adaption syndrome in our body. One of the example is the metabolic effect in our body and in our pancreas the “↓ insulin secretion (suppression of GLUT2 and K channel, apoptosis), impaired glucose tolerable/diabetes mellitus”. (General adaptation syndrome (GAS). As our body goes through the general adaptation syndrome the pancreas at time decreases the amount of insulin that should be produced which causes high impaired glucose and it is one reason that we feel exhausted Since, our body needs glucose for energy, but when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin the glucose cannot be derived from the blood stream which results in high glucose in our blood stream. Also another article which is called the Pre-diabetes (Impaired Glucose Tolerance) relates impaired glucose to pre-diabetes, which means that our glucose level in our blood is higher than normal, but not so high that we can call it diabetes. The article states, “It is also thought that having pre-diabetes increases your risk of developing conditions such as heart disease, peripheral arterial disease and stroke (cardiovascular diseases).” ("Pre-Diabetes, Impaired Glucose Tolerance). The above statement indicates the high risk of illness that we could develop are heart disease, cardiovascular disease, stroke and many other heart related
