Racism in legal courts is a huge issue that causes suffering in our society. To Kill a Mockingbird gives an idea of racism in the court system. The story takes place in the 1930s, a time when racial discrimination was out of control. The movie explains the racial prejudices and injustice African Americans had to face in the courtroom, the movie helps to show how racism still continues to impact legal courts, leading to unequal treatment and systemic biases.

The lack of diversity in courtroom decision making is a huge issue that impacts the disinterest and discrimination in the judicial system, “White men comprise 58% of state court judges.” Tom Robinson, a Black man in a racist society falsely accused of a crime he did not commit, is faced with an all white jury, and Tom is guilty only based on the color of his skin. The lack of perspectives and experiences of the jury is why Tom was still convicted after being proven innocent. The need for diversity in the legal system is not just about what they represent, but making sure that everyone feels heard and understood and not just judged based on their skin color.
