When you go to a tanning bed you are receiving cell damage through UV radiation which can lead to premature skin aging. People before the age of 35 have a 75 percent higher risk of melanoma and skin cancer. Melanoma is one of the most commonly known types of skin cancer. There is a foundation called the Skin Cancer Foundation that focuses solely on skin cancer and how to prevent it. The people in this foundation recommend to everyone, no matter your age, gender, or ethnic background to avoid indoor tanning as a whole and make sure to take precautions when you know you'll be in the sun. Skin cancer can cause damages that are disfiguring or sometimes even death. But the disfiguring damage and death caused by skin cancer can be prevented entirely. This is why FDA is making restrictions on indoor tanning. "I see it as the same way we think about cigarettes or alcohol use: Tanning has health implications," Stapleton says.
